Scott T. Mooney, Head Coach A 1998 graduate of the school, Scott Mooney returned to Cherry Hill East as head coach of the Women’s Volleyball Team in 2005, coaching the Cougars to the 2005 Group IV State Championship. For his efforts, he was named the 2005 Courier Post Coach of the Year. The dramatic state final, which the Cougars rallied to win 2-1, was the first Women’s Volleyball State Championship in the history of the school.

Mooney began playing volleyball in 1996 as a sophomore at Cherry Hill East, winning three New Jersey State Championships (1996, 1997, 1998). He captained the 1998 championship team and earned All Conference, All-South Jersey and All-State honors during his high school career. In 1998, he received the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award.

Continuing his career at the University of Pennsylvania, Mooney served as Captain in 2001 and 2002 for the Men’s Club Team. At the NIRSA National tournament in 2002, the Quakers finished tied for 5th place, the highest in the school’s history, and Mooney was awarded All-Tournament Team honors.

While at Penn, he began coaching at NIKE Volleyball Camp at the University of Pennsylvania under Penn Head Coach, Kerry Carr. He has five years of experience, teaching basic skills and coaching high potential players aspiring to play collegiate volleyball. In 2002, he was the Cherry Hill East Men’s Assistant Volleyball Coach.

Through his experience, Mooney has developed a coaching philosophy that emphasizes teaching fundamentals and game strategy. He employs a variety of offensive and defensive sets based on the strengths of his team each season. Mooney performs extensive scouting and statistical analysis, using the information to exploit matchups and identify potential areas of improvement. He strives to elicit maximum effort from his players and prepare them to continue their volleyball careers after high school.

Mooney earned his BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002, graduating with honors.
